Special Service During the Season or Lent

The Season of Lent

Lent is the solemn religious observance in the liturgical calendar of the Christian Church that begins on Ash Wednesday and covers a period of approximately six weeks before Easter Sunday. The traditional purpose of Lent is the preparation of the believer through prayer, penance, repentance of sins, atonement, and self-denial.

Wonderful Wednesday, March 29 Special Programs

Please join us for a very special Wednesday night program. The youth are preparing dinner as a fundraiser. Proceeds will go towards their summer trips. The planned dinner menu is baked spaghetti, bread, salad, and dessert. Dinner reservations can be made by using the pew pads, or by calling/emailing the church office.

Our program for the evening is something we all look forward to every year. Jane Robinson will present her Lent music program at 6:30 in the sanctuary. Please make plans to join us.

Palm Sunday Luncheon – Sunday, April 9 – Luncheon in the Anchor to follow worship. There is a sign-up sheet on the reception desk outside the Anchor. Please bring a side dish depending on the first letter of your last name. A-G Hot Sides and Casseroles, H-L Desserts, M-R Salads, S-Z Vegetables. The Church will provide the meat, rolls, and drinks.

One Great Hour of Sharing Special Offering Collected April 16

Every year Christians from all over the world collect a special offering to help relieve hunger and extreme poverty. Each family is asked to participate in this extra giving opportunity to help support the Presbyterian response to devastating earthquakes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters and to alleviate suffering around the globe.  Sometimes, this offering is thought of as the Easter offering and families are encouraged to pray and reflect during the Lenten season on the many blessings they enjoy and while remembering the needs of others.

McDonough Presbyterian Church

McDonough Presbyterian Church is rooted in the past with over 150 years of faithful, dedicated service to Jesus Christ and to the community, but not buried in the past. Instead, we are a dynamic, growing family of faith seeking fresh ways to being God’s people today. We are a delightful blend of believers: adults and toddlers, couples and singles, teenagers and seniors, wealthy and not so wealthy. We enjoy being together to evangelize and eat, pray and play, sing and serve, worship and work. We are a church that is large enough to meet your needs, small enough to need you.
Our goal is to help people discover all they can be through a personal friendship with Jesus. Life is a roller coaster of events, some tragic, some terrific. We hope to assist folks in handling both successfully.
We believe questions about the faith are welcome, but simple answers to them are not; God loves us just the way we are, but loves us too much to allow us to stay that way. Followers of Christ are not perfect, but our relationship with Him makes a difference in how we live. We believe the story of Jesus is intended to touch both hearts, and move from pulpit to pew to pavement.
